The Evidence of Evolution
Korda, Petr ; Dvořáková, Radka (advisor) ; Lhotský, Josef (referee)
In this thesis I addressed myself to the literature search of the evidences supporting evolution by natural selection. The aim was to present and describe these evidences. I focused myself on the evidences from the field of paleontology, biogeography and on the similarities based on anatomy, morphology and molecular biology. The conclusion from the literature search is that there exist many arguments supporting evolution by natural selection and further also that proponents of alternative theories try to falsify evolution. The contribution of this thesis is presentation of arguments supporting evolution and also description of arguments against evolution and outlining the problems connected with teaching evolution. Key words: Evolution, evidences, Darwinism, Neo-Darwinism, intelligent design, creationism

Evolution vs. Creation: Where the Truth Lies
Miklošová, Zoana ; Lhotský, Josef (advisor) ; Stella, Marco (referee)
The debate between creationism and evolution remains vital after 80 years. Creation Science, represented by Young- Earth Creationism (YEC) and Old-Earth Creationism (OEC), denies fact of macroevolution and postulates based on Genesis model of separately created species. Thesis submits brief description of creationistic model and compares it with Darwinian idea of descent with modification from common ancestor. Primarily, the scientific and methodological merits of Creation Science are examined. In last two decades the position of Creation Science was rather decreasing. On the other hand, new phenomenon Intelligent Design (ID) became widely known. Although philosophical starting-points similar as creationistic ones ID introduces new arguments for supernatural design. This work analyses main tenets of ID - specified complexity and irreducible complexity of organisms. Again, ID's arguments are judged on its explanatory and methodological merits in confrontation with evolutional concepts reflecting recent post-neodarwinism development in biology. Key words: Creationism, biological evolution, Darwinism, Neodarwinism, Intelligent design, falsifiability, methodological naturalism
Reception od Darwin in biology
Richter, Jiří ; Markoš, Anton (advisor) ; Flegr, Jaroslav (referee)
Reception of Darwin in biology conveys a story of evolutionary biology with emphasis on the divergent reception of Charles Darwin's theories by biologists in the past 150 years. Given the influence of Darwin's thought, a unique tradition has emerged in the scientific field. Every fifty years starting from the publishing of The Origin of Species, scientists gather to celebrate Charles Darwin as a thinker and a person. An immense amount of literature on Darwin and evolutionary biology has been produced by authors and publishers worldwide, thus the recurring commemorative events provide a fine start to the historical survey of Darwinism and are used as such in Reception of Darwin in biology.
